About Hideout

Welcome to Hideout

Great communities are able to create a strong sense of belonging. Whether we are learning a new skill, picking up a hobby, or joining a new team, we thrive when there are others around us.

Despite being an incredibly powerful tool for connection, the Internet and the communities on it can feel overwhelming and impersonal.

That's why we built Hideout: To make it easy to engage with the communities you love.

The Story

If you've ever joined a new community, you know the feeling. The good quality information is out there, but as a newcomer, you don't know what you don't know. It's incredibly tough to discern between what is genuinely important and what is just noise. You end up wasting hours searching ineffectively, feeling like an outsider looking in.

At the same time, the experienced members who spend hours curating great content, answering questions, and guiding others rarely get the recognition they deserve.

We realized something had to change. We wanted to build a space where:

  1. Beginners can instantly access high-quality, expert-curated information without breaking the bank or wasting time, as well as feeling a sense of progression as they work through learning the fundamentals for their new community.
  2. Contributors are recognized for their value. Time and effort should reward community members with higher reputation and recognition. Over time, you should be able to look back at the achievements you've accomplished and see the record of effort that it took to get there.

The 5 Foundations of Hideout

We believe a truly great community isn't just a chat room—it's an ecosystem that helps people develop deeper connections. To achieve this, we believe that strong communities are built on five core pillars:

  • Intentional Onboarding: Newcomers shouldn't feel lost. By using what we call “ Journeys”, you can guide new and old community members through essential shared information.
  • Centralized Knowledge: No more digging through pinned messages or searching for Reddit posts that may or may not be there. Our Library and Announcements pages make it easy to gather, organize, and share vital resources.
  • Regular Connection: Communities stay alive when people meet. While we are currently in Beta, Events are right around the corner on our roadmap.
  • Recognizing Major Milestones: Progress deserves to be seen. With Badges, members earn visible recognition for completing journeys and reaching key milestones—building a lasting record of their growth in the community.
  • Accessible Communication: You need a way to talk. Discord does this beautifully (and free), so instead of making you learn a new chat tool, Hideout integrates directly with Discord.

With these five foundations, your community transforms from just another web page into a place where people feel connected to a greater whole.

Who is Hideout For?

  • The Curious Newcomer: Skip the endless scrolling. Get straight to the high-quality, vetted insights you need to grow, curated by people who have actually been there.
  • The Passionate Leader: Build a structured, thriving home for your group that goes beyond messy chat threads.
  • The Star Contributor: Finally, get something tangible to show for your time and expertise. Build your reputation and standing naturally.

One of our mantras is: the member should be rewarded for ALL time and effort they contribute to the community. Following this, we believe that you should always be generating a record of your effort and time invested into a community. This helps you feel a sense of true progression — knowing that your time was not lost or wasted.
